Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr., is a passionate educator, author, political commentator, and public intellectual who examines the complex dynamics of the American experience. Most recently he is the New York Times bestselling author of the remarkable Begin Again: James Baldwin's America and Its Urgent Lessons for our Own. Five Things I’ve Learned about America’s Past, and Its Urgent Lessons for Today is hosted by Nicholas Buccola, and is part of Nick’s four-part series, Five Things I’ve Learned about the Power of the Word, which in addition to this session features conversations with David Blight, Roosevelt Montás, and Myisha Cherry His session offers insight on what it means to “think with” a great author like James Baldwin, how such thinking can shape your own writing and ways of being in the world, and the power and the limits of language to bring about social change.

Eddie is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor and Chair of the Department of African American Studies, a program he first became involved with shaping as a doctoral candidate in Religion at Princeton. He is also on the Morehouse College Board of Trustees. Combining a scholar's knowledge of history, a political commentator's take on the latest events, and an activist's passion for social justice, Eddie challenges all of us to examine our collective American conscience.
