Replay: Thomas Dyja shares Five Things He's Learned about How to Live in a City
Check out the first five minutes of his recent class.
“As we talk about what we want our cities to be in the years ahead, we need to see that while business and government build the buildings and lay the highways, it’s people who make the city.”
– Thomas Dyja, Five Things I've Learned about How to Live in a City
Thomas Dyja is the celebrated author of the two of the best books about cities we know: New York, New York, New York: Four Decades of Success, Excess, and Transformation and The Third Coast: When Chicago Built the American Dream. Here’s the first five minutes of his 90-minute class in which he shares the Five Things He’s Learned about how we can use our city’s structures and energies to improve our well-being and help create a better place for all.
Five Things I’ve Learned about How to Live in a City explores the essence of living in a city and the transformative power cities have for the individuals and communities. Through personal experiences in cities like Chicago and New York, Thomas offers five key insights on how to embrace an engaged and enlightened urban life. He goes beyond practical aspects of city life, delving instead into the deeper meanings of urban existence, including fostering connections, celebrating communities, and actively shaping the future of cities to benefit all residents.
If you want to learn more about cities – how they work and how you can make the most of your engagement with your local community – this class is for you.
Thomas worked in publishing for more than a decade before becoming a writer. Along with editing four anthologies, he’s written three novels, and a biography of civil rights pioneer Walter White.
