Just Announced: Adam Gopnik Joins Five Things I’ve Learned!
Sunday, March 23: Join best-selling author, essayist, public speaker, lyricist and libretto writer Adam Gopnik in this live, two-hour class and discover the Five Things He’s Learned about the mystery of mastery – and about the ways that our humanity is immeasurably enriched in even the simplest things we set out to master.
Adam is a legendary and beloved writer for The New Yorker, where he has contributed fiction, essays, and cultural criticism for over three decades, serving as the magazine’s art critic and Paris correspondent. He has received numerous awards, including three National Magazine Awards and France’s Legion of Honor. In addition to his writing, he has delivered prestigious lectures, worked on musical projects, and continues to contribute to literary and artistic discussions globally.
An international bestselling author, his books range from memoirs and cultural commentary to children's literature. His most recent releases include the remarkable The Real Work: On the Mysteries of Mastery and All That Happiness Is: Some Words on What Matters, two awe-inspiring considerations of what happens when one is fortunate enough to engage in activities purely for their own sake
On Sunday, March 23rd, Adam will join Five Things I've Learned to share his insights on the process of learning and mastery. His two-hour live class, Five Things I’ve Learned about…Five Things I’ve Learned, will draw from his experiences with remarkable teachers he’s encountered on his journey of developing his own new skills and habits. He will offer all he’s learned about the common structure of mastery, the role of great teachers, and the importance of social imagination. He’ll also talk about the power of imperfection and the significant role that secondary passions can have in fueling primary pursuits.
"I’m an essayist, and a humanist, not a scientist," Adam writes in the introduction to his class, "but then this is a subject that demands the broadest humane vision. I won’t give you a recipe, but I will give you a reason – a series of reasons – to explain why learning happens, and to give you confidence that real learning never ends".
