Replay: MT Connolly shares Five Things She's Learned about How To Better Navigate Aging
Check out the first five minutes of her recent class.
“Time is longevity’s most sacred gift. There are no silver bullets, but a fuller contemplation of what it means to live long lives can help us move the needle – away from the negative and toward the positive aspects of aging. Paying more attention to where we want to end up, and helping others do the same, is the first step.”
– MT Connolly, Five Things I’ve Learned about How to Better Navigate Aging
On April 30th author, researcher, nonprofit leader, and MacArthur “Genius” award recipient MT Connolly joined us to share five things she’s learned about how we underestimate longevity’s challenges and its gifts – and how learning about both can improve our odds of securing a better, happier old age.
MT is widely recognized as a leading national expert on elder justice, for which she was honored with a MacArthur “Genius” award. She was the founding head of the Department of Justice’s Elder Justice Initiative; the architect of the Elder Justice Act, the first comprehensive federal law to address the issue; and the lead author of the Elder Justice Roadmap that guides federal, state, and local priorities. She lives in Washington, DC.
Her 90-minute class, Five Things I’ve Learned about How To Better Navigate Aging MT shares essential insights drawn from decades of work on aging, care, and elder justice, offering a practical and deeply human guide to navigating longer lives. The session explores how societal systems, financial pressures, autonomy, cultural norms, and meaning-making shape the aging experience—and what we can do to better prepare for its realities and possibilities. It’s a conversation about moving from fear and denial toward agency, connection, and purpose in later life.
