Years ago, we drove from San Francisco to Arkansas to visit family. On the way there, we zipped along interstates and saw nothing but concrete and other cars. On our return, we took secondary highways. We wandered through New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada. We climbed Indian ruins. We camped at the Grand Canyon. We talked with a 15th generation Hispanic museum guide in Santa Fe. We wandered a classic old drug store in Las Vegas, NM. We saw late-night lights of unknown aircraft while driving across Nevada. Who knew eastern Nevada had beautiful farms and cattle ranches? This was a trip of a lifetime.
Wow Mike, what an amazing trip! I agree, getting off the interstates onto those secondary roads is the way to go. I may have been to that same drugstore! And I'm always on the lookout for mysterious lights in a dark sky. Thanks for sharing.
I so concur, Tina. I traded in the house for an RV and find there's pure magic, wonder, and awe on the road. So many amazing sights, and my life is so much richer. Great perspective!
I could relate so much to this list, especially what happens when you go out and see America, the people and places you had a fixed judgement about and how they can surprise you. Also the outdoor spaces...there were places we thought for instance "we'd never want to live" - and then the land would welcome us and bring us back to ourselves and we'd have to rethink everything. The grieving and the reinvention and too much stuff - Amen to it all - No mistake you are "someone important." These reminders are important. xoxo
I love Tina’s writing (and I’m also from NH :). I’m just returning to the U.S. from traveling to England, Scotland, and Iceland and couldn’t agree more with Tina’s list - esp LESS STUFF and to enjoy the beautiful outdoor spaces of America. A good way to live.
Very inspired reading this. Yes, 🙌🏼 to become a lighthouse for oneself and for others as each soul in an earth suit is carrying a loss or many. Hand in hand, Heart to heart we show up however we may. It all makes a difference. In gratitude for beaming your light, Tina. 💫
Beautiful Teen...I know that you have many more chapters of future travels that I will love hearing about!
Excellent! I shared it with several friends.
